Curated Studio
From a distinctive setting to carefully chosen pieces, our spaces say a lot about who we are. The Welcome Home series is our chance to ask inspiring people how they created a place they love.
Daniel Ching of untitled design agency is known for his thoughtful approach and respect for natural materials—which is why we tapped him as a design partner on some of our most iconic pieces, including the Field, Form, and Quilt collections. His personal favourite? “The Keep Stacking System, for its unassuming modularity.”
When do you feel most inspired?
Still mornings when my thoughts have room to flow.
How do you dive into a new design project?
I like to start by asking questions. What does the space or object want to express? Should it feel calm or bold? This exploration helps create a real connection between my creative instincts and the environment or object I’m designing.
For you, which came first, interiors or furniture?
While studying interior design, I worked at furniture stores, creating a natural overlap between interiors and furniture design. Later, I worked in architectural firms, where I developed a more holistic approach.
We often create pieces specifically for the interiors we’re designing—for instance, the dining tables and stools for the restaurant Field & Social, which eventually became part of Sundays’ first furniture collections.
What makes a space feel like a home?
For me, it’s about surrounding yourself with pieces that feel authentic to who you are. Understand the history and provenance of your furniture, art, and objects, and choose to live with pieces that resonate with you.
What’s the best piece of furniture to invest in?
A lounge chair. It’s the most nuanced piece of furniture to design and also the most likely to adapt to new environments. A well-designed chair is worth prioritizing.
